Our Commitments

Each fiber has a story. Every choice, a consequence. At Waro, we believe that an exceptional blanket should never come at the expense of the planet or living things. This is why we work every day to reduce our impact, without ever compromising on quality.

N°1

Throws designed to last, above all.

At Waro, our number one commitment is sustainability. A Waro blanket is not made for one winter: it is made to accompany you for years.

This is what guided our choice of materials. Yes, we work with polyester, an accepted choice, not a default choice. This synthetic fiber resists traction, friction and repeated washing much better than most natural fibers: it does not felt, does not shrink, and keeps its colors. Where a material like wool or cotton requires precise maintenance, a Waro throw can be machine washed, rewashed, and keeps its texture and softness intact.

But it's the weight that makes all the difference. Grammage is the weight of a material compared to its surface area, in grams per square meter: the higher it is, the more fibers per m², the denser and more generous the material. Many entry-level throws rely on a low weight to reduce their costs: the result is thin throws that settle after a few washes. At Waro, we have chosen the opposite: a weight significantly higher than the market average, for throws that are more enveloping and above all much more resistant to the impacts of everyday life: a child who plays on them, a cat who sits on them, a sofa which sees the whole family pass by...

TESTED, APPROVED, WRAPPED

And because durability does not stop at longevity of the product, we have chosen to offer fleece throws made from 80% recycled fibers. It is a way for us to reconcile the demand for quality with a responsibility that we take seriously. And to the delight of your skin, 100% of our products are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD-100 certified, which guarantees that they have been tested against numerous substances harmful to health or the environment.

N°2

Neither promos, nor compromise.

We are not participating in the promotion race. Few or no sales, no participation in major commercial operations which encourage impulsive purchasing. This is not our logic, and it never will be. We too often see prices artificially inflated before being "sold out", flash sales which encourage people to buy on impulse rather than out of real desire. This is not how we want to sell you a blanket.

We prefer a fair pricing policy, the same all year round, which reflects the true value of the product, the cost of materials, the know-how, the manufacturing, rather than an artificial discount calculated to give the impression of a good deal. Our prices have changed very little in ten years: this is not a coincidence, it is a promise of stability. You can buy a Waro throw in January or November, during the sales period or outside: you will always pay a fair price, never an inflated price for the occasion.

A PRICE THAT DOES NOT CHANGE YOUR MIND

This approach requires a form of discipline. Refusing the sirens of Black Friday or private sales also means refusing an easy share of turnover. But it is a discipline that resembles us: we prefer to sell less, but sell fairly, rather than participating in a system of overconsumption which goes against everything we defend.

The choice of large.

N°3

The choice of large.

It all starts in Roubaix, where our designer Victorine designs each of our throws: colors, patterns, textures. It is the look that gives each Waro collection its identity.

Next, our throws are designed in China, and more precisely in Changzhou. It’s a choice that we fully accept, and that we want to explain to you rather than keeping quiet about it. Working with our Chinese partners means having access to specific textile know-how: that of weaving high-density fleece and faux fur, developed and perfected for decades, with a consistency of quality that we have taken years to secure. It is this know-how, combined with a relationship of trust built with the same workshops for a long time, which allows us to offer you throws that are both very high quality and at a fair price.

We wanted to make this choice as responsible as possible. Rather than multiplying air shipments, we have chosen a single charter per year, by sea, GRS certified. It's a choice that requires anticipation and organization, we have to plan our stocks well in advance, but it's a choice that we accept, because it allows us not to emit the tons of CO2 that repeated air shipments from Changzhou would have represented throughout the year.

N°4

Our compass points towards Roubaix.

If we could make all our throws in France, we would do so without hesitation. This is our dearest wish, and it is not just a formula: we are today in discussion with the town hall of Roubaix to explore, concretely, the means of achieving this.

The reality is that the weaving of high-density faux fur, as we practice it, is almost no longer done in Europe. Most of the know-how and machines capable of producing this type of material have moved to Asia for decades, and even the French players most committed to the subject, such as Ecopel, only recently carried out 3% of their production outside China. The remaining European workshops often work on smaller weaving widths, which strongly limits the possible volumes and formats. Relocating this production cannot be decided overnight: it involves rebuilding an industrial tool, skills and machines that have largely disappeared from our territory.

OUR SHEEP HAVE TALENT

While waiting for this dream to become a reality, we have chosen to move forward where it is already possible: our 100% collection wool from the Pyrenees is made in France, by passionate artisans. You will find all the details of this collection on our website.
